Snowman Day

B in his snowman outfit
W's special breakfast-powdered donut snowman with pretzel stick arms and fruit roll up scarf (probably would have been cuter with chocolate chip eyes and buttons, but the raisins were a bit healthier....)
For art time, I gave W a blown-up balloon to paint a snowman with. Then he fingerpainted the scenery and, when dry, decorated it with markers.
I got some great new songs to sing from http://www.preschooleducation.com/swinter.shtml. We did the "snokey Pokey" and "10 little snowmen" We also learned:
Sung to: "Frere Jaques"
Build a snowman, build a snowman, Big and round, big and round
Sun is shining on him, Sun is shining on him. He's all gone, he's all gone

The next new song was perfect for the plastic sack snowman we made (and W's fave!)
It is sung to the tune of "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush"
This is the way we *dance around, *dance around,*dance around. This is the way we *dance around, Our snowman in the morning.
*skip around*twirl around*crawl around*hop around*spin around*gallop around*sneak around*tip toe around

We also acted out the following songs:
Once there was a snowman, snowman, snowman. (Hands above head in circle, on tippy toes)
Once there was a snowman, tall, tall, tall.
In the sun he melted, melted, melted. (Get smaller and smaller with every "melted" until you curl up in a ball on the ground at the end)
In the sun he melted, small, small, small.

and this one, sung to: "I'm a little Teapot"
I'm a little snowman short and fat. Here's my broom and here's my hat. When the snow is falling come and play. Build a snowman every day.

My favorite was sung to: "Do your ears hang low?"
Who is made of snowWhen the temperature is low?Who stands outsideWhen The ground is cold and white?Who starts to meltWhen the warm sunshine is felt?Who is made of snow?

After all that fun, we had lunch- a snowman sandwich, with green peppers and a banana and orange slice snowman.
Before we brushed our teeth and read books, we made some snowman cookies to eat later.
At playtime, we built "snow"men out of play-do. W had some trouble rolling the balls, so he said his was a melted snowman!
At snack, the snowman was made of provolone on ritz crackers.
It was a fun theme day!
