PW's Cinnamon Toast

I first made Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon toast in 2014, but never posted the recipe. It takes longer than your normal, "toast, then butter, then sprinkle" cinnamon toast, but it is WORTH IT!

        SMALL BATCH                                                      FAMILY SIZE
1/2 stick butter, room temp                                                  1 stick
3 or 4 pieces of whole wheat bread                                      6-8 pieces
1 tsp cinnamon                                                                     2 tsp
1/4 cup sugar                                                                        1/2 cup
dash of vanilla                                                                      dash of vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Smash softened butter with a fork. Dump in sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg, if using. Combine completely.

Spread on slices of bread, completely covering the surface all the way to the edges. (You could also butter the bread, then mix up the dry ingredients (skip the vanilla) and sprinkle on the bread.)

Place toast on a cookie sheet. Place cookies sheet into the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Turn on the broiler and broil until golden brown and bubbling.

Watch so it won't burn.....oops!
(Even with crunchy edges it is DELICIOUS!)
